Case Study: Lion's Gate Films

THE PROBLEM
With offices in L.A. and Toronto, sending our artwork (large digital
files) between locations had grown costly in terms of shipping costs
and wait times. Worse yet, "deadline stress" was amplified
by the loss of control that comes when the file you need is "In Transit"
and the clock is ticking. We needed a solution that was user friendly
and practical.
THE SOLUTION
The 2ndSite document
manager lets you upload and download large files over the net
quickly and it's easy to use. We used Macintosh's that were running
on an older version of Internet Explorer (v5.01). 2ndSite forced us
to upgrade to 5.1 or higher, but it made the process easy by prompting
us and letting us know about the improved performance and security
newer browsers provide. Then they provided us with the link where
we could upgrade our browsers - that made it easy.
[Editorial Note: As of Oct 6, 2004 2ndSite is fully
Mac Compliant]
THE RESULTS
Now I spend no time explaining un-intuitive FTP programs to designers,
nor do I waste time making designers memorize arbitrary passwords
so they can log into an FTP account. Instead, all I need is an email
address and 2ndSite does the rest. 2ndSite lets users setup their
own username and password, and makes it easy for me to set permissions
that ensure only the team members I assign to a project have access
to the key files. It's all easy to use and we've customized the colors
in our site so there is a familiarity to the service that we all enjoy.
